Over 50 Final

09/16/2024POSTED BY Terry S. Mathura

Over 50 Final

Dear Champs.

On behalf of our Board Members, I would like to express our sincere appreciation and congratulations to the GTA Storm for retaining the Over-50 Championship Crown with a resounding victory over a great challenger, the Toronto Blizzards. My hats off to both teams for displaying true, competitive sportsmanship that was witnessed by an appreciative crowd under glorious weather. Congratulations also go out to the two MVPs, Richard Driffield (Storm) and Jaimini Singh (Blizzards) who were well deserving of the awards sponsored by Terry Mathura. I was so excited that I even asked Rush to tell the umpires to keep an eye on the bowling action and Rush politely responded " I can't hear you U Azeem". Anyway, I just can't say enough about the management and players of both teams including the umpiring and of course, our sponsors. Special thanks go out to Ravi Mandholall for a job well done with live streaming and reporting on the game.

Under the determined and focussed leadership of a true and proven all-rounder, Troy Gobin, flanked by former OMSCC Presidents and outstanding cricketers, Jai Sigh and Orin O'Neil, with invaluable support from the management viz, Mgr. Frederick Halley and owner, Nirad Lall, the GTA Storm has certainly carved their name in OMSCC Over-50 History Book of Champions.

It was such a nice day for cricket, more so with the presence of our cricket-brother, Mark Luke, who came out for the first time in a few years to see such cricket talents. Last but not least, Troy was so humble in accepting the Championship Trophy from my daughter and two grands who were gifted with Championship medallions from Troy. That moment will be forever etched in my memory. Thank you, Troy!!

A special thanks to both team' captains and Khem for acknowledging the work of the Board Members. We started off the day with Terry setting up the wicket immediately upon arriving at the ground, Khem dealing with the audio system, placing of the banner and giving great commentary thereafter, Hardatt with mounting the flags and handling the trophies, and the other BMs, Indira, Bobby and Amit for assisting with clean-up, distribution of the medallions, engaging the spectators etc. Their contributions were vital to the smooth running of the Finals.

We salute the Champion of Champions, GTA Storm.🏆
